Architectural & Decorative Fixtures (Up/Down Lighting)
This is the most common use in general and interior lighting.
- What it is: A wall sconce, pendant, or channel fixture designed with LEDs that shine both upward (to wash the ceiling for ambient light) and downward (to illuminate the floor or wall space).
- Purpose: It creates a dramatic, layered lighting effect, enhances the sense of height in a room, and provides both functional and decorative light without harsh glare.
- Examples:
- Wall Sconces: Often used in hallways or flanking artwork/mirrors, casting light both above and below the fixture.
- Suspended Linear Pendants: Fixtures hung above a desk or conference table that direct 70% of the light down for work (direct lighting) and 30% up for general ambiance (indirect lighting).
